Progressive Caucus Statement on World Refugee Day 2018

Today, as the world observes World Refugee Day, the Members of the Progressive Caucus proudly pledge to support refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced persons who’ve fled their homes for fear of harm and persecution. This includes continuing to resist and highlight the injustices that the Trump Administration has perpetuated through its atrociously harmful immigration policy to tear families apart at our borders. While President Trump has reportedly signed an executive order to end family separation at the U.S. border, CNN cites many unknowns around reunification of those already separated, as well as potential harm from an evolved “zero tolerance” policy. Today and all days, the Progressive Caucus stands with all children and families from all countries who are affected by this violence and continue to work for the rights of all people who find their ways to New York City and beyond.
