WHAT PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS MEMBERS SAY:
“The Progressive Caucus has had another incredibly productive season teaming up with the de Blasio administration where we have continued to make big steps towards making New York City a more inclusive and progressive city,” said Council Member Donovan Richards, Co-chair of the Caucus. “From passing the country’s strongest affordable housing plan to registering students to vote in time for the Presidential primary, we have made great strides that will push New York in a more fair and just direction. I’d like to thank all of my colleagues in the Caucus, especially Speaker Mark-Viverito, and Mayor de Blasio for being outstanding partners in our progressive movement.”
“This spring was an extremely productive one for the Caucus, and I would like to thank Speaker Mark-Viverito and all my colleagues for working together to deliver progressive wins for NYC,” said Council Member Antonio Reynoso, Co-chair of the Caucus. “Mandatory Inclusionary Housing is the strongest such program in the nation and will transform future development in the city. The “bag bill” will help us make real strides toward sending zero waste to landfills by 2030. And I am particularly proud of what we were able to accomplish in this year’s budget negotiations, especially the increased funding for youth employment. Thanks to all the agencies and organizations that have worked with us as well, I look forward to continuing these strong partnerships.”
“The work the Progressive Caucus accomplished so far in 2016 is exactly the reason why I joined the New York City Council,” said Council Member Ben Kallos, Vice-chair for Policy of the Caucus. “From fighting for affordable housing to addressing employment discrimination, the Progressive Caucus continues to work toward fulfilling its mission of helping marginalized New Yorkers. I want thank every member of the Caucus for their hard work and cooperation, I look forward to continue working with them.”
“The Progressive Caucus stands together to make the lives of every day New Yorkers more equitable. As the 2016 Report indicates our successes range from housing advocacy to increased funding for those most in need. I’m most proud of our achievements engaging young people in voter registration. It is a pleasure to work shoulder-to-shoulder with dedicated public servants,” said Council Member Helen Rosenthal, Vice Chair of Budget for the Caucus.
