The Progressive Caucus supports the renewal of the millionaire’s tax, which expires on December 31, 2011. This modest income tax surcharge brings in approximately $5 billion in revenue annually. We have signed on to a City Council Resolution calling for the passage of bill A. 7802, and will continue to urge Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature to continue this policy of shared sacrifice. Year after year, the New York City budget is balanced on the backs of New York’s working families by cutting vital services. It’s time for millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share.
